Volunteer
We cannot run our season without volunteers. Every role is simple, takes about an hour, earns 8 points toward the season total, and you can still get your run in by arriving a little early.
The roles
What's involved
Get across these descriptions before you put your hand up. All roles are suitable for members of any ability level.
Stopwatch
You are responsible for accurately timing the race. The glorious task: standing at the start line calling out handicap times every ten seconds, and clicking runners across the finish line.
Finish tokens
You manage the distribution of finish tokens as runners cross the line. These tokens mark each runner's finishing position and are used to record individual times with the scribes.
Scribe
A vital role. You record each runner's bib number, start time, and finishing position at the scribe desk. Accurate records mean accurate results. Norm will be grateful.
Road safety
You assist at road crossings along the course and alert participants to potential hazards. Particularly important on the road sections near the start and the car park approaches.
Steps safety
You monitor the beach steps and ensure participants navigate them safely. A proactive approach here prevents accidents, especially when the field is bunched early in the race.
Safety officer
You run the course early and report back on conditions: whether the steps are safe, if the 6K drop is accessible, and whether Heartbreak Hill is clear. Can be a 3K or 6K runner — your time is recorded as normal.
