The 3K course
The most popular distance. Beachfront paths, a heritage trail through the bush, Angels Beach, and the glorious pain of Heartbreak Hill. Follow the bluey-green signs.
Start and finish
Find the two poles
Each Sunday, ready for the 9:00am start, two poles are placed about 200 metres from the south end of Shelly Beach. These poles mark the start and finish of all three courses. The starter calls out handicap times every ten seconds from the start line.
The route
From the start poles, head to the north end of the beach and ascend the steps. Turn left along the road for about 30 metres, then follow the sign across the grass to a path ascending the slope toward the tarmac path above.
Turn right and follow the tarmac until you reach the Heritage Pathway, which goes down and to the right under a wooden archway. Descend the steps, bear left, and follow the path as it winds through trees to a car park.
A sign at the car park points down to Angels Beach. Turn right on the beach and run to the end, then ascend the challenging hill — this is Heartbreak Hill. At the summit, join the tarmac path and turn left toward the Shelly Beach Road pavement.
The final section descends to a beach car park marked with a cross country sign, leading back down to the beach and the finish line.
Can't find a turn?
Little bluey-green signs with "3K" and an arrow are placed all around the course. If you miss a sign, just ask a fellow runner or a safety volunteer — someone will point you right.
